Using dominant linguistic borderlines that have shaped much of the African experience in the last century, this course will look at crosscutting themes in culture, geography, society and politics in francophone, Anglophone, lusophone and arabphone Africa. Prerequisite(s): One of AFRI 1001, AFRI 1002, ANTH 1001, ANTH 1002, ANTH 1003, FYSM 1901, GEOG 1020, PSCI 1002, SOCI 1001, SOCI 1002, SOCI 1003, or permission of director.Lecture three hours a week.
